Switch to 406
Your Lifeline to Survival

Upgrading to 406MHz emergency beacons will provide many benefits over existing 121.5/243.0 MHz beacons. The 406 MHz has a signal power 50 times stronger than the 121.5/243.0 MHz.

On second generation 406 MHz emergency beacons that are connected to or have an onboard GPS device, position data can be included in the in the emergency beacon's encoded message. The onboard GPS feature is of particular interest for GEOSAR alerts because the location of the distress signal can be determined without the need to wait for a LEOSAR satellite pass over and is crucial in the event of a distress situation.

Nothing is simpler when you have your ELT
installed at Penta Aviation Services.

If your existing Emergency Locator Transmitter broadcasts at 121.5/243.0 MHz, please be aware that on February 1st, 2009 Cospas-Sarsat (international satellite system) search and rescue will no longer be able to locate your beacon in an emergency.

To ensure your ELT will save your life when you need it, call Penta Aviation and make an arrangements to install a 406 MhZ or a 406N ELT in your aircraft. Due to the critical nature and shortage of parts we recommend booking your installation today to avoid any delays.

Why switch to 406?

The 406 MHz emergency beacons were designed specifically for satellite detection using geostationary (GEO) and low-earth orbit (LEO) search and rescue satellites in order to provide:

  • Faster alerting time
  • Improved location and accuracy using LEOSAR satellites and ambiguity resolution
  • Global coverage for position accuracy within 5km
  • near instantaneous alerting in the GEOSR coverage area
  • transmit a digitally encoded message with the emergency beacons unique identification

Why switch to 406 with NAV?

  • Continuous position updates from NAV/GPS system
  • Instant location of the distress signal with GEOSAR
  • Stores Latitude/Longitude information within 100 meters
  • No need to wait for LEOSAR satellite to pass over to determine location
